I’m going to start off by asking nicely. Please, stop talking about “white privilege”.
Now I’m going to be more honest and brusque. SHUT UP ABOUT “WHITE PRIVILEGE”.
Why? Because you’re no arbiter of human privilege. You don’t know shit about other people, and you’re judging them by race.
Ever met a white guy who resents black dudes for being “cool”? BOOM. “BLACK PRIVILEGE”.
Ever notice a clean, quiet neighborhood populated by Jewish folks? BOOM. “JEWISH PRIVILEGE”.
Ever been in a math class with a Japanese student? BOOM. “ASIAN PRIVILEGE.”
You’ve been spelling “privilege” wrong. It’s spelled “prejudice”, and it’s coming from YOU.
Just imagine if I looked at a Jewish Nobel Prize winner, and intimated that their achievements were wholly a result of their Jewishness. That is so prejudiced there’s even a word for it: anti-Semitic. It’s hate speech.
Why would anyone think it’s acceptable to bestow a verdict of “white privilege”, when it’s every bit as hateful?
- You saw that a person was white.
- You determined that anything worthwhile they possess or achieve in their life was only because of their skin color.
- If you aren’t white yourself, others listen to you, and validate your racism. (I’ve never been accused of “white privilege” by a non-white person.)
“Privilege” is a dangerous and reductive mindset. It is no different than the plague of “holier-than-thou” that infested society in the late 20th century. It is judging people by skin color, not the content of their character. And you’re doing it all the time.
Could it be that what you’re really seeing is individual confidence, and you resent it?
How would you know the difference? You’re not a mind-reader. Where would you get information about someone’s “privilege” from, and why would you be using it against them? What does that say about you?
You’re the white guy, resenting the “cool” black guys.
You see something you’re not, something you can’t have or be, and you get angry inside. Then you victimize yourself by misusing the word “privilege”. It’s not your fault! They’re to blame! They have PRIVILEGE!
Can you measure or quantify “privilege”? Of course not. You’re just judging human beings based on money and skin color. There is literally no difference between saying “white privilege” and saying “faggot cracker”. The respect for the individual person is roughly the same.
If you’re not careful, “privilege” becomes your religion, particularly if you lack spirituality, which you obviously do; you’re judging people by skin color. Remember that. It is the root of your resentment, whatever fancy buzzwords you justify it with. Your own personal experiences matter no more than mine. You are judging people by skin color. Casually.
If that’s your dogma, do us both a favor, and stay out of Georgia. The religions here tend to be a lot more tolerant than that, believe it or not.
